Synopsis and Bio of the new book

Everyone is greatness material. We all are endowed with unlimited potential. Greatness is chained within us waiting to be unleashed. Unfortunately, in every generation, very few unchain their greatness. The overwhelming majority fails to attain any level of greatness at all.

In ‘Unchain Your Greatness’, the author recognized the four stages the great ones from diverse cultures and generations passed through to achieve their inherent greatness. Those who unchained their greatness were like everyone else except that they followed four straightforward steps (the 4 E’s). They Explored, Enacted, Endured, and Emancipated their greatness to the fullest.

The great ones explored and discovered what predisposed them to manifest greatness. They took bold actions based on their findings. Those who attained greatness also faced numerous obstacles as a result of taking massive actions and pursuing the road to greatness. However, they endured, outlasted continual setbacks, emptied themselves, and ultimately emancipated the greatness shackled within and left enduring legacies.

On top of providing the model the great ones adopted to unchain their greatness to the fullest, the book narrates the stories of great men and women from different religions, age-groups, and fields to show you the attitude and mindset they had as they progressed through these four simple phases. It also shares with you what the great ones discovered, the actions they took, the challenges they overcame, and the legacies they left because they unchained their greatness to the fullest.

Dr. Assegid Habtewold is a coach, speaker, and facilitator at Success Pathways, LLC. He is also the host of ‘Pick Yourself Up’ show that airs on Channel 16. Assegid serves diverse clients including some government agencies, major corporations, and community organizations. He is the author of four books. His latest book is entitled ‘The Highest Level of Greatness: purpose-oriented, vision-centered, and values-driven greatness’.

Don’t die before uttering this magical phrase ‘It’s finished!’ (Excerpt)

“The great ones you and I admire knew when they were finished. Actually, many of them uttered this magical phrase ‘It’s finished’ in public or, at least, privately. Once they crossed the finish line, once they completed their assignment, they told the people close to them that they were done and ready to leave…” Taken from the upcoming follow-up book to The Highest Level of Greatness p. 147. The book will soon be available on Amazon. Stay Tuned!

Jobs tapped into the downtime as he worked hard for his comeback

“After one of the most humiliating outings in the history of US corporations, Jobs returned to Apple after 12 long years as Moses to take it to its Canaan. Jobs eventually regained his leadership position. He was crowned and placed at the helm of Apple once again.

However, one thing many people tend to forget is that Jobs didn’t waste his time in the wilderness. His glorious return wouldn’t have happened if he didn’t tap into the downtime. Between the time he was fired and his triumphant return, he didn’t waste his energy, time, and resources complaining and whining. Rather than blaming the Board and John Sculley- his mentor and the man he himself begged to join Apple, Jobs kept himself very busy. Rather than nursing his wounds, he was actively working toward his comeback.

During that downtime between 1985 – 1997, Jobs could have run away from the valley, called it to quit, or mourned his loss for a very long period of time. If he did, no one would have blamed him. Many would have sympathized with his decision. Instead, Jobs tapped into that downtime to further create. Next Generation and Pixar were the two classic innovations of Jobs that came to existence while he was passing through hell…”

The excerpt is taken from the upcoming follow- up book to The Highest Level of Greatness p.124

We all have wilderness moments regardless of our calling and God being with us. Moses, David, and Jesus had their wilderness moments and they tapped into these seasons as they believed, behaved, and acted waiting for their break.

For instance, David was anointed by one of the greatest prophets. That didn’t shield him from passing through his wilderness season. However, David didn’t lose heart while in the wilderness. He remained faithful to the One who anointed Him. He believed and waited for his payday. While in the wilderness, he tapped into the downtime as he was chased by King Saul. He never gave up in ‘the valleys’ of life. What about you? Have you bee in the wilderness yet? What was your attitude while passing through that tough time? Did you use the downtime wisely?

Change your prayers, find your Peter’s

I wrote the piece below quickly after I had a very serious conversation with a very gifted spiritual leader. And, I thought the core of my encouraging words to him may liberate you too if you are struggling like him. Read it and let me know what you think:

If you’re a leader, listen to me very carefully. If you have been complaining why people cannot see what God put in you, pay attention. If people couldn’t comprehend your talent, gifting, and teachings, lend me your ears for a while. You are about to be free forever.

Except a few, spiritually alert, many cannot see your true potential and your place in the Heavenly places. Think about Jesus, your Lord. Many despised Him. Used all kinds of ugly names to describe Him.

By the way, don’t forget that there were those who saw a king in Him. Remember, they tried to anoint Him as their king. Likewise, your loved ones, many of your relatives, and friends may see your earthly place based on your education, talent, and gift.

Even these few smart guys who saw a king in Jesus, they couldn’t see the King of Kings. It didn’t occur to them that they were looking at the everlasting King. They couldn’t comprehend that He was the King not just over Israel but over every creation of God in the physical and spiritual worlds.

Thus, know that the mass doesn’t listen to you at all, let alone to believe in you  There are few who may capture the glimpse of who you are. Only a few whose inner eyes are opened can only know your true essence and calling.

Therefore, don’t sweat over those who don’t like or listen to you. Don’t get depressed by their mistreatments. Don’t be flattered by those few who appreciate your earthly talents and gifting. Be thankful for these but never lower your true self to appease others. It doesn’t please God, He cannot use you. The people too, they don’t benefit from a tampered you. Be where He called you and stick with your gun!

Here is a serious challenge for you. If they despised Him if they couldn’t understand Him if they failed to capture His true self, what makes you think that people will treat you differently? If they couldn’t handle the pure One, the Righteous One, the Perfect One, the mighty One, what makes you think that a ‘sinner’ like you- a man/woman full of flaws, deserves a different treatment than your Master?

Remember this, however, there was one innocent in his heart whose inner eyes were opened by the Father, Peter! He saw the Christ- the Anointed One, in Jesus! He saw in Him, the Son of God, an everlasting King, and Lord over every creation. Peter answered Jesus’ question: “Who do people say I’m” by saying “You’re the Christ, the Son of the living God” (Matthew 16: 13 – 20). Jesus didn’t bother about what the rest of the team were saying. He revealed, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven.” Jesus then immediately made Peter the rock of His church and gave him the Keys to the Kingdom.

Don’t forget. Jesus knew very well that: “No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws them, and I will raise them up at the last day.” (John 6: 44)

Thus, instead of complaining about the multitudes who despise and misunderstand you, find your own Peter’s. Trust the Father to send the right partners your way. These are your lifetime partners. They know your true calling, your place in your society and in the Kingdom of God. They complement you, you do the same, and together you all get fulfilled individually and collectively.

On a daily basis, pray to meet these few than kneeling down and interceding to transform those who will never believe in you; who will never know who you truly are.

What is more? It’s not your intellect and unceasing prayer that gonna help you. It takes the Father to open their inner eyes to see your true calling and their roles in your assignment.

Teddy Afro- the sensational singer, and his resilience (excerpt)

“…Back home in Ethiopia and in the Diaspora, the name Teddy Afro is a household name. He is a sensational singer known for his songs of love, tolerance, unity, and forgiveness. Teddy is also a well-celebrated singer in East Africa. Moreover, his latest Album ‘Ethiopia’ came in 1st on the Billboard World Albums chart.[i]

Unfortunately, Teddy’s messages didn’t go well with the previous government in Ethiopia. He encountered many roadblocks aimed at discouraging and ultimately changing his messages. He faced jail time, cancelation of his shows, visa denials to travel and perform outside of the country.

Other artists in his place would have easily and quickly given up a long time ago. Not Teddy! Regardless of experiencing continual setbacks and losing lots of money, he kept singing his messages while also improving his craft. After so many years of persecution, finally, because Teddy kept going while passing through hell, he began getting acceptances including from some unlikely circles.

The Amahara regional state is governed by one of the members of the ruling party (EPRDF). The state extended an official visit to Teddy a couple of months ago. When he arrived in the beautiful city of Bahir Dar, he got a heroic welcome. What is more? On top of performing in a concert that attracted thousands of fans, Teddy gave an interview to the state-owned media.

The moral of the story is that since Teddy kept going while experiencing continual setbacks, he continued to produce. He didn’t slow down. He refused to change his messages to appease those who opposed him. He didn’t quit nor decided to wait and see. He remained optimistic while keep going…”

Apostle Paul was the pillar of the early Christianity next to Jesus. He was persecuted and faced so many challenges more than the rest of the Apostles. He revealed, I worked harder than all of them.” (1 Corinthians 15: 10) He worked hard to spread the good news. He had been In danger from rivers, in danger from bandits, in danger from my fellow Jews, in danger from Gentiles; in danger in the city, in danger in the country, in danger at sea; and in danger from false believers.” (2 Corinthians 11: 26) He further enlisted his sufferings, I have labored and toiled and have often gone without sleep; I have known hunger and thirst and have often gone without food; I have been cold and naked. (2 Corinthians 11: 27) Through all these, he never quit! What about you? Have you made your mind to outlast the setbacks you’re experiencing? Yes, you can! You’re very close to a breakthrough! Don’t give up after coming this far! As it gets darker as dawn approaches, you are near to cross the red sea of your life and enjoy your season of honor…

Book Excerpt- Daniel Bryan fought for his dreams

“…One of my wrestling heroes is Daniel Bryan. To his dismay and disappointment of his fans including myself, he retired prematurely on February 8, 2016. For more than two years, he had been depressed since he couldn’t do what he loved to do: Perform in the ring and entertain millions of fans around the world.

However, Daniel resolved to fight for his dreams till the end. Without giving up, he kept fighting until he was cleared to compete. Due to his resolve for more than two years, Daniel finally outlasted this tough setback that dashed his dream to wrestle in the WWE ring.

Filled with emotions and tears, Daniel publicly announced on March 20, 2018, his being clear to return to in-ring competition. In his emotional speech, he said, “If you fight for your dreams, your dreams fight for you.” Yes! (His signature slogan) His dreams fought for him. And thus, he competed at WrestleMania 34 on April 8, 2018.

Have you resolved not to give up so easily? Have you stayed in the fight long enough? Have you determined to outlast the setbacks you’re facing right now a little longer?…” Taken from the upcoming follow-up book ‘The Highest Level of Greatness’ p. 161

Apostle Paul fought hard as he pursued and fulfilled his assignment. More than the other disciples, he paid dire prices. He never gave up until he crossed the finish line. Here is what he himself said: I have worked much harder, been in prison more frequently, been flogged more severely, and been exposed to death again and again. Five times I received from the Jews the forty lashes minus one. Three times I was beaten with rods, once I was pelted with stones, three times I was shipwrecked, I spent a night and a day in the open sea. I have been constantly on the move…” (2 Corinthians 11: 23 – 26)

Book Excerpt: Mandela’s resilience

“…Why was Mandela celebrated, not just by South Africans but also around the world? Simple. His endurance. Otherwise, there were many freedom fighters who paid more dire prices including their very lives than Mandela. What made him unique and different was his courage to face seemingly insurmountable challenges. His determination to outlast all of them.

Mandela once said, “Difficulties break some men but make others. No axe is sharp enough to cut the soul of a sinner who keeps on trying, one armed with the hope that he will rise even in the end.” The unspeakable trials he encountered didn’t break him. He withstood the setbacks he experienced believing that he would win in the end. And, sure enough, he won…” Taken from the upcoming follow-up book to The Highest Level of Greatness p. 157

Jesus demonstrated true resilience. He remains the most inspirational figure who outlasted the challenges presented against Him when He was here on earth. He told us that “In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” (John 16: 33) We too; we will triumph in the end like He did… If you’re passing through tough times right now, hang in there! This is my hope that the stories of Jesus and Mandela should remind you that it’s within your reach to outlast all of the setbacks you’re experiencing at the moment…

Manifesting Your Greatness Moment by Moment (10 min video clip)

In this episode of The Hour of Greatness, Mr. Restorer talked about manifesting your greatness moment by moment.

You are greatness material. Achieving greatness is your birthright. You’ve what it takes to manifest your greatness.

However, greatness is a journey. It doesn’t come by achieving one major milestone.

On your journey toward greatness, you need to use every moment to manifest your greatness. Since you don’t know which moment is a golden one, you should treat each moment seriously.

Using the story of Joseph in the Bible, in this episode, Mr. Restorer showed how Joseph used every moment, even while he was in the valleys, he brought out his best, his A-game, and finally manifested his greatness.

Moses attained purpose-oriented greatness (excerpt)

…Think about those great ones you admire. Write down the names of five of your great ones. If you take time and reflect, you could be able to find out, at least, two things in common. They:

  • Discovered their unique purpose, and
  • Willing to die for the purpose they discovered.

Let me quickly give you some diverse examples of great ones who attained purpose-oriented greatness.

  1. Moses

Moses is the greatest prophet who ever lived. “Probably no person in history has been so widely admired as the great Hebrew prophet Moses.”[i] He is popular among Jews, Christians, and Muslims around the world. For that matter, the founder of Islam, Muhammad “recognized Moses as a true prophet.”[ii]

He was supposed to die the moment he took his first breath. Pharaoh issued a fatal decree. Pharaoh ordered: “Every Hebrew boy that is born you must throw into the Nile, but let every girl live.” (Exodus 1: 22)

His mother concealed him for three months, but finally, she couldn’t hide him any longer. He was weaned prematurely and thrown into a river full of deadly beasts. The daughter of Pharaoh found him and adopted him as her own son. He lived in the palace and was groomed as a prince. Unbeknownst to them, they equipped him to handle his future purpose (Exodus 2:1-25).

When he was forty, he sensed his purpose of delivering his fellow Israelites from bondage. He actually took action toward that end. He killed an Egyptian who mistreated a fellow Hebrew (Exodus 2: 12). You know the rest of the story. What he had done came out in the open. He had to flee and spend the next forty years in the wilderness.

When he was still in the desert and tending sheep, at the age of eighty, Moses was sent to deliver the Israelites from bondage. “So now, go. I am sending you to Pharaoh to bring my people the Israelites out of Egypt.” (Exodus 3: 10) This was his unique purpose.

Moses was committed to his purpose. He was willing to die for it. He confronted the leader of the then superpower country and demanded the release of Israelites. Since he discovered his purpose and demonstrated unwavering commitment to pursue it, Moses attained a purpose-oriented greatness. As a result, he became the greatest deliverer in history and left a legacy…

Don’t be a duplicate, find your unique calling (Book excerpt)

As you already know, the Creator of the universe, yours and my Father, is purposeful. He isn’t a wasteful God. Everything He created in this finely-tuned universe has a purpose.

Well, yours is different. You’re not just created like other creations. You were made, and then born of the Spirit. You’re a son/daughter of the Most High.

You’re His prince or princess. God has unique purposes for His princes and princesses. His desire is you and I to discover our purpose and fulfill His agenda for this generation, and inherit our glorious destiny that outlasts this universe.

Remember, your fulfillment is tied to your unique purpose (if you haven’t watched the video clip on Your Greatness is Tied with Your Purpose, stop it here and watch it first). Go back and study all the great ones, they were given unique assignments.

What is your calling? If you don’t know about it yet, there should not be any other task that should be a priority. If you discovered your calling, then, what are you doing about it? If you discovered your true and unique purpose ordained by God, believe me, it inspires you and fuels your journey.

Don’t make a mistake and just pick any task and call it your purpose. When you discover your true purpose, not only you, the whole world knows about it.

When you are on your assignment, Heaven is with you. If you are on your rightful calling, which is bigger than you, you joined an eternal movement and became indispensable to the Kingdom. Surely, you’re destined to shine, become one of the great world changers (if you haven’t watched this video entitled You’re One of the Great World Changers, stop here and watch it first), and leave a legacy that outlasts your generation.

Don’t toil where you’re not called. Discover your reason for existence, and go all-in.

Stop copy and paste others. Refrain from duplicating others. God never creates a duplicate.

Say enough is enough for playing it safe and small. God isn’t a small player and doesn’t hang out with small thinkers. You’re His image, act like it by discovering your unique purpose, and showing unwavering commitment to it… More on this. In the meantime, below is an excerpt from my upcoming book:

“…The universe is a purposeful one. Everything in this universe was created for a specific reason. That was why Sir John Templeton asked cynically, Would it not be strange if a universe without purpose accidentally created humans who are so obsessed with purpose?” There is nothing in this finely tuned universe that exists without a definite purpose.

Each individual is created with a unique purpose to manifest greatness. However, this greatness is tied with his unique purpose. One’s true greatness, therefore, should begin by admitting this fact and taking responsibility to discover and pursue his unique purpose.

Filipino nationalist and polymath Jose Rizal took responsibility when he said, “As God has not made anything useless in this world, as all beings fulfill obligations or a role in the sublime drama of Creation, I cannot exempt from this duty.” He believed, “And small though it be, I too have a mission to fill, as for example: alleviating the sufferings of my fellowmen.” You too; what so ever small you may think your reason for existence, you have a unique place in the universe. You were born for a specific purpose. Humanity in particular, and the universe at large won’t be complete without you playing your unique part. Your generation won’t be fulfilled without you pursuing and fulfilling the reason for your existence.

If in case you’re skeptical about this ‘everything has a unique purpose’ thing, let me help you a little. Within every creation, there is a coded purpose. Some of the codes are easy to decode, others aren’t. If we don’t know the very reason why a thing exists doesn’t nullify its original purpose. If we haven’t yet known the very purpose of a thing, it only shows our inability to discover it as of yet. We’re not yet able to decode its reason for existence. That is it!

The same is true if you’ve not yet discovered your purpose. Don’t give up. Make a decision today to discover your purpose. Otherwise, the alternative is not pretty. Failure to identify the reason for your existence leads to insignificance, not to greatness…”
