Get Involved- Upcoming projects at AHM

In this email, I’d like to give you a quick update concerning what has been happening at AHM, and future projects so that you may be part of what is happening. You may pray for the success of what we do, volunteer, and/or give other supports where you can.

Last year, we began producing two homemade video shows:

  1. a) 1-Minute of Power
  2. b) The Hour of Greatness. The YouTube channel can be found in the top right corner of our website:assegid.org. By the way, I’ve done two facebook live chats in Amharic, the official language of Ethiopia, based on two videos that were produced in English.

I’ve a plan to start a facebook live program to empower Christians in the corporate world to improve their soft skills. If you are interested or if you know someone who may benefit from it, please advise them to like our facebook page so that they may get a notification when we start this important project.

The live program is based on the book ‘Soft Skills That Make or Break Your Success’. In this weekly live chat, which will be launched within a few weeks and may continue up to 3 months, immigrants and Habeshas are the primary target audience though anyone who understands English could join. By the way, though the book is written for anyone who is interested, in the live program, on top of some insights, facts, and tools, I intend to use Jesus as an example of how His soft skills contributed toward the success of His earthly ministry.

In the future, when God provides the resources, we plan to produce a teaching video program and a show that interviews successful Christians from the corporate world in a professional studio.

We are also praying for resources necessary to broadcast and stream these shows on some cable or satellite networks, and Internet platforms, respectively, to reach out more Christians beyond the DC metro area.

We also plan to start a service in the DC metro area for African immigrants including second-generation Ethiopians and Eritreans, who don’t understand the official language in their communities’ churches.

On top of the above two projects, God spoke to my heart to empower immigrant Christians by offering the following two services:

  • Leadership training for church and ministry leaders, administrators and volunteers, and
  • Soft Skill workshops for Christian business owners and professionals.

Please pray for us to get the necessary funding and also to serve God’s people with excellence.

Please pray for the success of these projects. If you would like to volunteer or if you may have any suggestion or advice, please give me a call at 703-895-4551 or email me @ assegidhm@gmail.com I look forward to hearing from you…

New Book: The Highest Level of Greatness

As you already know, the core mission of AHM is restoring the greatness of humanity. Our mission is the continuation of what Jesus began more than two thousand years ago. Jesus came and redeemed mankind and restored us back to our former glory before the fall.

Sadly, the vast majority of humanity hasn’t yet claimed its redemption, and thus, unable to enter into the Kingdom and enjoy all the benefits that come with being in God’s everlasting Kingdom. What is more troubling is that even among those who claimed their redemption by believing in the redemptive works of Jesus, a fraction of them could be able to restore themselves to the fullest.

The majority still plays religion. They take the victim role and remain where they are (tormented by the devil, circumstances, etc.) rather than imitating Jesus by faith, doing His works (even greater works than He did), following His examples to become royalties. Jesus was one of the great world changers who left an enduring legacy. And, we’re His brothers and sisters from the same class…

Once again, Jesus didn’t come so that we may regain access to Heaven when we die. He came and showed us what a redeemed ‘man’ look like. Jesus expects you and I not only to claim our redemption while still alive here on earth, but He also expects us to complete the restorative work by restoring our soul and renewing our mind until we’re restored to the fullest.

Jesus’ mission is incomplete without His followers, you and I, restoring ourselves back where He restored us: Above principalities, authorities, and circumstances. We are kings and queens here on earth on a mission to change the world for good while pursuing our individual assignment toward fulfillment. We cannot get fulfilled like the other great ones such as Paul, who earned his crown while he was here in this world, without knowing how they did it.

That is why AHM exists: To help individuals claim their redemption, restore themselves back to humanity’s former glory, and continually reform until they become like Jesus. That is the goal.

You know it, we’re not yet there. Our own unbeliefs have jailed us, and religion too lowered our expectations. We live casually, just get by, and eventually die like fugitives while we were redeemed to become royalties in our lifetime here on earth.

The good news is that this is going to change. AHM has taken this assignment. One of the significant milestones of the Ministry was met when we began producing video programs. Now, with the publication of this first book on greatness, another milestone is achieved.

I’m excited to let you know that, after spending more than two decades to study, research, pray, reflect about greatness and the great ones including Jesus, Moses, and others who attained greatness, I just began releasing the first book in a series of books on the theme greatness. The title of the book is ‘The Highest Level of Greatness: Purpose-oriented, vision-centered, and values-driven greatness’.

Here is a press release to learn more and download the Introduction and first chapter of the book for free: http://successpws.com/?p=2599

If you would like me to speak at one of your future events, let me know. Give me a call at 703-895-4551 or email me @ assegidhm@gmail.com I look forward to hearing from you…

I’ll continue to produce more video clips by taking some contents from the book. Subscribe to our YouTube Channel and also follow us on social media by going at the top right corner of our website. You may also subscribe below to get our monthly updates:

Video- Your Greatness is Tied with Your Purpose (The Hour of Greatness with Mr. Restorer)

If you haven’t watched my recent video ‘You’re One of The Great World Changers!’, you should. You’re a greatness material. You don’t deserve to die before you unleash your greatness. If you watched this video, you shouldn’t miss this follow up video clip of less than 10 minutes I just released. It is titled ‘Your Greatness is Tied with Your Purpose’:

Among the three reasons I mentioned in the first video that entitle you to become one of the great world changers, the third one is your ‘Specific Purpose’. It’s your competitive advantage. It separates you from the crowd. It’s the gateway toward your happiness, success, greatness, contentment, fulfillment, and more.

In the second video I just produced, I revealed how the great ones you and I admire believed that they were born to do a specific assignment, and finally showed commitment to die for their purpose. I shared in the clip how Jesus, Joan of Arc, Martin Luther King Jr., Mahatma Gandhi, etc. found their unique purpose, believed that they were born to do it, and finally showed commitment to pay the ultimate price.

The greatness of these great ones and many others were tied to their purpose, the reason for their existence- why they joined the universe in that particular time and generation.

You too, you need to discover your unique purpose. But, remember this, you may not have a global, national, and/or a purpose that requires you to die for but you are designed for a specific purpose. Have you found it? Have you shown the necessary commitment? If not, this video is for you. It encourages you to find your purpose and give it your best.

By the way, by taking from my upcoming book, which will soon be published (Stay tuned!), I shared in this video just two of the indicators that will help you to decide whether you discovered your true purpose or not (The Design and Commitment Tests). In the book, I gave 7 indicators.

Anyways, watch this video clip and let me know your feedback. Don’t forget to share it with people in your network.

I wish, I knew the insights and tips shared in this video 20 years, 10 years ago…

Don’t forget. One insight can turn your life around. It can launch you into your destiny. It can lead you to make a U-turn. It may push you to enter into your envious place. The place where you flourish, feel happy, serve others best, in the end die empty, and leave a legacy…

Don’t die like a fugitive while you deserve to live and ultimately die like a Royalty. You’re a Royalty! However, that journey must begin by discovering your purpose, and this video inspires you to take the first step. The upcoming book will provide you more insights, stories, and so on…

Presentation based on my new book on Aug 4th @ 6pm

If you’re in the DC metro area and available on Aug 4th @6 pm, this is great news. I’m going to facilitate an interactive workshop based on my new book entitled ‘Soft Skills That Make or Break Your Success: 12 soft skills to master self, get along with, and lead others successfully’. In this one hour fast paced but engaging presentation, I’ll empower my audience to take their life, career, and business to the next level by sharing with them key insights, processes, and tools they can immediately use in the work and marketplaces.

You may wonder and question whether developing your soft skills has anything to do with you as a Christian. It does! Don’t look far. Study Jesus.

Jesus had an extraordinary personal mastery. He led Himself first before He stepped out to lead His disciples. Throughout those three years and a half, He demonstrated how in charge He was.

On the other hand, Adam lacked personal mastery, and thus, gave away his authority and caused havoc. Thank God! Jesus came into this world to take back the authority Adam lost. This assignment required discipline. Jesus had what it took. He didn’t buy into the temptations of the devil since He had personal mastery (Matthew 4: 1 – 11).

You may be a great Christian. You may love God and His people. You’re passionate about serving the world. These are great attributes to have. Do you have self-mastery? You cannot master what you don’t know. Do you know who you truly are, your calling, passion, strengths, limitations, and blind spots that the devil and wicked people have been using to sabotage your life, business, and ministry? Have you led yourself successfully before you attempted to lead others? If you don’t know yourself, your mission, if you are not in charge of your emotions, manage your time and energy wisely, solve the problems you are confronted creatively, and make ethical and right decisions, you’re not yet in charge. You’re susceptible to stumble, to fall into the temptations of the devil.

Jesus built His team from scratch, knew His and the roles of His team members very well, and played His part selflessly. He communicated effectively both verbally and non-verbally, used unforgettable stories, metaphors, and parables. His hearers marveled by His extraordinary communication ability (Luke 4: 32). He knew how to deal with diverse groups. He used different communication approaches when He communicated with the friendly Pharisee Nicodemus and those who were hypocrites and those who were trying to trap Him. He got along with women and gentiles too…

You may have self-control. You may be a self-disciplined Christian with extraordinary personal mastery. These alone don’t translate into success in your Christian life, career, business, and ministry. You may have a generational call. The world has been waiting for you to step out and be a solution to the dark world around you and beyond. You’re here at the right time and place, with the right message. You know yourself, your call, and the truth. It’s not enough. You need to master getting along with others, both Christians and non-Christians. Both at home, in the church, in the neighbourhood, market, and workplaces.

Can you play teamwork, know your uniqueness, the uniqueness of others, play your role, whether your role is to lead or support the leader and other team members? Can you communicate your message effectively? Can you turn conflicts into opportunities? Can you live, work, and do business with diverse people from different age groups, races, ethnicities, cultures, religions, genders, and so on?

Jesus was a great leader who motivated His team to aim high. He restored humanity to its former glory. He then inspired His followers to reconnect with the Father, enter into the Kingdom, and claim their birthright of sonship and daughtership- to behave and act as the sons and daughters of the Most High. He stretched His disciples and inspired them, “Whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do” (John 14: 12). He coached and mentored His disciples before and after His resurrection. He empowered them and sent them to practice and exercise their authority (Mark 6: 7). Jesus transformed His team, and led them in many stormy situations when He was here on earth, and still leads His Body to finish the work He began.

It’s great that you’ve personal mastery, and get along with others successfully. The question is, have you developed those soft skills that empower you to lead your team? Do you know how to motivate your people to aim high? Do you coach and empower your team members to do their job descriptions properly? Do you know how to mentor your successors? Do you know how to negotiate with your team, other internal and external customers, and stakeholders? Do you know how to conduct win-win deals? Do you know how change works? Are you skillful in leading your people to make changes smoothly?  If you answered no to one of these questions or hesitated to say a resounding yes, you need to work on your soft skills that are vital to lead others successfully.

If your desire is to grow in your Christian walk, succeed in what you do, you cannot afford to neglect your soft skills. And, this presentation provides you a high-level overview of the 12 soft skills that make or break your life, career, business, ministry.

The event is organized by 21st C Community. It’s going to be at the Civic Building, Veterans Plaza, Downtown Silver Spring (One Veterans Place, Silver Spring, MD 20910).

By the way, two of my books are door prizes. The first two persons who will come first will be rewarded. Be one of them!

Science and Faith aren’t incompatible

At AHM, we strongly believe that science at multiple levels (blueprint, cellular, and cosmology) reveals the existence of a Creator than it disproves.

  • At blueprint (DNA) level: There must be an intelligent Creator who used a microscopic blueprint like DNA to create distinctively complex beings like humans. That one microscopic blueprint contains every bit of information such as the color, height, facial features, hair color, and so on of that unique individual. This cannot happen randomly.

  • At cellular level, hundred trillion autonomous, intelligent, and at the same time interdependent cells work together to create a living, breathing, thinking, and intelligent, and most importantly unique (once in billions) entity. This cannot happen randomly.

  • At cosmology level: Almost all contemporary scientists agree that the universe had a beginning, and fine-tuned to allow the existence of life. If it had a beginning, there must be a cause, a Creator. The latter finely tuned the universe using certain fundamental constants. If any one of these constants is altered, life cannot survive in this universe. A very simple example, if the strength of gravity becomes weaker or stronger than it has been for years, the universe loses its fine-tuning and in turn life cannot survive. This cannot happen randomly.

As you can see, science reveals God than contradicts.

Almost all who had vowed to use science as a tool to disproof God, met with Him, or at least, got introduced to His unmistakable fingerprints. Many of them admitted that it takes more faith to deny the existence of God than to believe that He exists…

Science isn’t incompatible with faith. It rather opens our mind, which is created by God. It allows us to discover the fingerprints of God in His creations, both at micro and macro levels. And, gives us undeniable confirmations to our faith about the GREATNESS of our God!

We should embrace science. We should advance the greatness of humanity through science in this physical universe. Science and faith should find their rightful places and get along to contribute their share in restoring the greatness of humanity.

Of course, science isn’t the right tool to know the mind of God and communicate with Him. That isn’t the purpose of science. Its domain is in the natural world while faith is a tool we should use to go beyond the physical world and tap into our greatness as the images of God.

Faith is the only key to access the Intention of God about humanity He created so distinctively; about you as a unique being created for a distinctive purpose in this generation at this time.

The Creator uniquely empowered humanity for greatness from the start. Unlike other creations, He showed favor. He duplicated Himself and manifested in the physical world through humans.

God empowered humanity with an extraordinary mind, and eternal spirit to rule the universe, make personal relationship with the Divine. Unfortunately, humanity lost its greatness, and wandered for thousands of years until Jesus Christ showed up to restore us back to where we belong by being exemplary.

Jesus demonstrated how humanity should live here on earth, like Royalties, not as fugitives. He showed us on how to maintain our relationship with God. Science cannot help us here, faith can. By faith, we:

  • Believe in Him
  • Interact with Him
  • Seek His guidance
  • Love Him
  • Worship Him as the one and only Creator.

AHM, as a faith-based organization, it is committed to play its part with others who share its vision in restoring humanity to its greatness one person at a time using both science and faith.

Fear Not!

Fear is universal. Everyone who is alive fears, at least, one thing. What is your fear? It’s okay that you’re afraid of this thing. That makes you human and alive! Be cheerful!

Know that you’re not alone. Those great souls you may consider bold, courageous, and extraordinary too fear. Some fear public speaking, others spiders, while others darkness, and still others criticism. Most people fear death…

Jesus of Nazareth walked on earth and had human experience. He was vulnerable to those things that tempt flesh. Fear tempts humanity, and no one is exempted.

Religious scholars still debate whether Jesus was afraid or not prior to his crucifixion. I side with those who believe that He was tormented with fear. That really didn’t matter. What mattered was He overcame fear through prayer and supplications, and faced His own death boldly to fulfill His assignment on earth!

Whatever is tormenting you right now, you have what it takes to overcome it and face it boldly.

Remember. Fear is not about the past or even the present. It’s about the future. We are afraid the future consequences of what we do (or not do) today. This fear paralyzes us from taking bold actions. From now on, fear not about what happens tomorrow!

How Jesus overcame fear, you may ask? He knew how to beat fear- through prayer. That was why He encouraged His inner circle during that tempting season of His stay on earth, Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.” (Matthew 26: 41)

Jesus defeated fear, and fulfilled His purpose with extraordinary boldness! In the days of His flesh, He offered up both prayers and supplications with loud crying and tears to the One able to save Him from death, and He was heard because of His piety.” (Hebrews 5:7) My friend, now you know what to do. You too can beat all kinds of fears to pursue your purpose and get fulfilled!

This fear that you are facing right now or any form of fear you may face in the future will pass. You will look back retrospectively and be thankful for overcoming it. Fear not, NOW!

Don’t forget. Bold people are those who take bold actions while they are still feeling scared. That is the only difference between those who are courageous and fearful. You too can do the same, feel fear but never give in and remain paralyzed. Fear not; take action!

In the Bible, the phrase FEAR NOT, and other similar phrases were mentioned 365 times. There are 365 days per year. One FEAR NOT per day… FEAR NOT is that important…

Unlock and unleash your greatness!

Do you believe that you’re born to be great? This is one of the questions I’ve asked many of my friends over the years. On the surface, the answer to this question seems easy. Right? It’s not. Time and again, these individuals shy away from saying a resounding “Yes” to this question. They didn’t come out assertively to say that they’re meant to be great in their own unique ways. Even if some of them said, “Yah, sure, I was born for greatness”, I read tentativeness in their non-verbal expressions. It wasn’t surprising when the majority of them dismissed the very idea of viewing themselves as great. Of course, I’m not sure whether they believed differently in the inside, and the answer they gave me were just an attempt to appear humble outwardly.

It’s your turn. Are you deeply convinced that you’re a greatness material? If you said a resounding “Yes”, here is my follow up question: Are you behaving, walking, and acting in the ways that align with your believe in your greatness? Your believe should be backed outwardly; otherwise, it’s just a mere mantra…

Of course, I don’t blame any one when I see them downplay their greatness. There could be so many reasons. In some cultures, individuals are molded to renounce their individual greatness. A few in these communities who dared to claim their greatness are perceived countercultural, egotistical, and have paid some serious prices.

The other reason why people refrain from believing, behaving, and acting according to their unique greatness is religion. In some religious circles, believers are discouraged to seek their built-in greatness in the name of humility. As if the Creator is going to be intimidated if all of His creations become great, there are zealous religious people who make sure that we all downplay our birthright of greatness.

There are also so many other myths that prevent many from tapping into their greatness, and in turn have denied millions, if not billions, from maximizing their great potential. It’s a disservice to the individual, its community, and the human race at large when an individual fails to tap into his/her full potential- when they live in this world without benefiting the world around them using their unique gift and talent, and without releasing their infinite potential. That is why our ministry is committed to demystify these counterproductive myths, and empower individuals to claim their greatness.

Jesus began His GREAT journey in this world from a humble beginning. He was born in the Bethlehem stable on one cold night in one of the remote places in the world. When he began pursuing His GREAT passion, he was confronted with so many hurdles that aimed at belittling him. Jesus, however, never shied away from behaving, walking, speaking, and acting GREAT. He was ridiculed: Then they scoffed, ‘He’s just the carpenter’s son, and we know Mary, his mother, and his brothers–James, Joseph, Simon, and Judas’” (Matthew 13: 55). What are other people saying to belittle you? Why asking what others are saying. What is the little voice inside of you says about you? What is your reaction?

The religious elites attempted to kill Jesus twice because they considered him as a blasphemy. They couldn’t take it when he told them that he and the Father are one (John 30: 31).

One thing to notice here is that Jesus wasn’t shy about his true identity. What about you? Remember, it’s not humility to renounce who you truly are. You are the image of God. You’re destined to shine and lead a great life that impacts the lives of others and your community. Embrace it; if you have not!

What is paradoxical is that billions of people who are called after his name- Christians, they don’t use his extraordinary life as a source of inspiration. They settle for mediocrity. Billions are crammed into a corner of insignificance in the name of humility. Rather than knowing their uniqueness, identifying their purpose in life, and serving the world around them with the greatness packed within them, many die without even knowing that they are greatness materials, let alone to claim their greatness, and serve the world with it. This shouldn’t be your destiny.

You’re not an ordinary creation. You’re FEARFULLY and WONDERFULLY made (Psalm 139: 14). Your Source- the one who initiated this gigantic and harmonious universe and the one who sustains it is GREAT. He didn’t create you by mistake or for mediocre purpose!

The whole world is waiting to benefit from your GREATNESS! Of course, be humble that you’re nothing without the source, and also admit that others too are great like you in their own ways. But, don’t drop who you’re in the name of FALSE humility. Unlock your greatness and unleash it to serve the world with your unique purpose, talent, and leave legacy that continues well beyond your lifetime.

What is your orientation?

What is your orientation? Have you taken time to recognize whether your Christian lifestyle is earthly or eternal? Have you invested enough time to know the truth, and live up to the expectations of the truth? Or you’re so busy that you are following the path of least resistance? Are you working for legacy or cheap popularity? Are you looking for eternal rewards or immediate gratifications? Knowing your orientation by asking these and other similar questions is profitable at many levels.

Jesus led eternity-oriented lifestyle. His preoccupation was pursuing his assignment and pleasing the Father (John 4: 34). Jesus never worried about what other people thought of Him. He never went out to seek no one’s approval. He endured ridicule, persecution, and even a humiliating death knowing that these were just temporal.

The setbacks, challenges, betrayals, and loneness He experienced while He was on earth were tolerable because of what was awaiting Him in eternity. Paul wrote, “For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God” (Hebrews 12: 2). Moses too, “He thought it was better to suffer for the sake of Christ than to own the treasures of Egypt, for he was looking ahead to his great reward” (Hebrews 11: 26). If you review history, many servants of God had endured temporary earthly sufferings, obscurity, setbacks, and persecutions in anticipation of receiving eternal rewards. Their preoccupations were identifying who they were, why they were there, what He wanted them to do in that generation, and giving everything they got to fulfill their assignments. Their eyes were fixed on the other side. The temporary distractions, temptations, obstacles, and frustrations they faced as they pursued their assignments didn’t distract them?

I asked myself this question some years ago. I don’t want to waste your time by recounting the journey it took me to answer this question. Rather, I would like to give you just three indicators you may consider using to know your orientation. First, are you obsessed with following God hundred percent and whole-heartedly?

When we are preoccupied with what other people think of who we are and what we do, and go the extra mile to please people with the hope to gain acceptance and recognition without making sure these extra efforts won’t sabotage our walk with God, we know that we are worldly oriented.  Unfortunately, many Christians just do this without even knowing it. If you closely watch some of your Christian friends, you could be able to witness that they are appeasers of others. This faulty orientation short-circuits their eternal rewards. They may gain popularity, tones of approvals, and applauds here on earth and from fellow human kinds. That is it! Don’t get me wrong. Even if we are eternity oriented and mature Christians whose walk with God is upright, we need to seek other people’s feedbacks. We need counselors, coaches, and mentors who went ahead of us.

Another parameter to employ to figure out our orientation is our patience. I have had mentees who thought that something must be wrong because they couldn’t achieve quick results. They were impatient. Who blames them? They gave their best and had been five to ten years in ministry works. The challenge was their expectations. They expected hundreds and thousands of followers and extra ordinary results that match their extraordinary efforts. They became impatient when that didn’t happen since their orientation was not eternal- long view…

Jesus almost lost all of His followers at one point. Even then, He asked the remaining 12 disciples, “You do not want to go away also, do you?” (John 6: 67). Because of His orientation, Jesus was never in hurry to achieve results. His eyes were focused on the assignment. For that matter, He was rejected during His lifetime on earth. He didn’t have much to show as success. He gained acceptance and following long after He had left this world. If our preoccupation is getting quick results and immediate gratification than a legacy that endures, our orientation is messed up. When we are eternity oriented, we know that we are eternal. We know that we are here in this world for a brief moment. Whether we have one year, ten years, or ten decades here on earth, what counts is whether we are committed, faithful, and on the assignment. Our job isn’t to worry about results. That is His territory. Jesus didn’t worry. Here is just one example, “For no one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws them to me” (John 6: 44). He wasn’t desperate to gain following.

Another indicator is your passion to know the truth and live up to its expectations. When your orientation is eternal, your preoccupation is to know the eternal truth. You won’t settle for less. You don’t accept a ‘truth’ at its face value. You invest time and commit yourself to know the truth from the Source. Those whose inclination is earthly; they go for short cuts. They feed themselves what is popular, and acceptable by the mass. They are afraid to walk alone because that is what happens when someone knows the truth. It sets them free of pretention, and in turn to live up to the expectations of the truth they uncovered regardless of the prices. They won’t settle for ideas, thoughts, and beliefs that haven’t passed the test of time.

If you are experiencing some forms of resistances, setbacks, defeats, and so on because you know who you are, why you are here in this world, your uniqueness, and because you’re pursuing your assignment, living up to the truths that you have uncovered and the values that you embraced, cheer up! You’re a man or woman of legacy. You are too valuable to opt for shortcuts. You are honorable and a person of integrity. Your rewards are eternal so hang in there…

Master Delivering Tough Criticisms

Delivering Constructive CriticismOne of the skills managers and leaders who participate in the workshop that I facilitate (Delivering Constructive Criticism) would like to sharpen is providing tough feedbacks. However, this soft skill is not just relevant to leaders in the corporate world. Christian leaders should also develop this attribute. It’s true that delivering tough feedbacks, especially for people with whom we live and work closely is hard, to say the least. These could be our lovers, relatives, co-workers, disciples, mentees, children, friends, mentors, teachers, parents, and what have you. We don’t want to offend them, and in turn affect our relationship.

Though it is tough, mastering this skill makes you an effective communicator and leader. It empowers you to get along with and lead others effectively. It also enables you to earn the trust and following of others. When you master giving tough criticisms, you know how to be nice and at the same time honest to give critical feedback to the people you love and care about. Remember, they need your feedback desperately. Know that they may not know that the feedback you have for them has been getting in the way and sabotaging the success of their personal, family, career, and spiritual lives. It’s their blind spot need your help to uncover it.

But, be careful not to give feedback for the sake of it. To get along with others and also become a successful spiritual leader, you need to know how to provide a tailor made feedback that leads to improved spiritual, social, and career performance. If somebody says, behaves, and/or does something and if it gets in the way or contributes toward the betterment of your team, and for the attainment of your organization’s mission that is when you need to provide a tailored made feedback.

What do you mean by tailor made, you may ask. For starters, state the issue clearly. Let’s start with a positive feedback. You might have noticed that someone has been humble and you know that this attribute has been one of the reasons why you like this person, and also you know that it contributes for that person’s personal, professional, and spiritual success. Tell him/her, “You are humble.” Then, explain how you come to conclude that that person is humble: “I know you are humble because you fully submitted yourself to the will of God. You don’t seek praise for what you do. You put others’ needs ahead of yours. You listen what others have to say, and also learn from others.” If necessary, you may point out some instances where this person demonstrated humility. You may encourage the person to use this attribute more often including by suggesting where and how, if you have some options for the person to practice humility.

Let’s see another example. This time, a tough feedback that requires telling someone that he/she needs to make improvements. Be specific and tell the person what is not working well (what should change). “You have been wearing inappropriately against our dressing code.” Give some examples when that happened. And then ask why was that? The person may or may not be aware he/she is violating the rules. Give them a room to explain themselves, and even ask them how they plan to make the amendments.

Be direct! People respect you, even if they may not agree with your feedback. Rather than going behind and stabbing them or using a proxy, if you offer them criticisms directly, they admire and honor you. They come to you in the future to solicit more feedback. For instance, rather than saying ‘some people don’t even know how to pick the right tie’, and hope the person gets it, pull aside the person who needs this feedback desperately (it’s his/her blind spot), and tell him/her in their face: ‘You look great with this suit and tie. You may not be aware. I want you to know that your tie doesn’t match with the occasion’, and offer some options for next time use.

In conclusion, don’t give feedback for the sake of it. Don’t flatter or belittle people with your feedback. Learn how to give and receive feedback, give more frequently, and also ‘beg’ for feedback from the people who work with you closely. When you give tough feedback that requires improvements, be positive, direct, and offer some options for that person to make improvements. When people see that you care enough to take risk and give them tough feedback, they know that you have their best interest in your heart. People also reciprocate it by giving you back tough feedback that have been your blind spots. They trust you that you won’t be offended or get hurt if they give you tough feedback because they saw you doing the same.

Jesus was a great feedback provider who didn’t shy away from delivering tough criticisms that aimed at educating and enlightening his disciples, and even distractors. He offered the former numerous direct feedbacks. Once they were arguing about who was the greatest on the road. He listened their arguments carefully, and waited to give them feedback when they arrived at their destination: “Anyone who wants to be first must be the very last, and the servant of all.” (Mark 9: 35)

Jesus wasn’t crooked. He was direct. He gave tough feedbacks to His distractors. For instance, the Sadducees created a scenario to challenge His position about marriage after resurrection. Knowing that they lacked adequate knowledge about the matter, He offered them a helpful feedback: “You are in error because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God. At the resurrection people will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven. But about the resurrection of the dead—have you not read what God said to you, ‘I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’? He is not the God of the dead but of the living.” (Matthew 22: 29 – 32) Learn from Jesus and master delivering tough criticisms…
